Feber security release 1.3.1, Catching up: Faircamp, FOSDEM, Hyper 8

Hello again to everyone tuning in on RSS! o/

  1. Feber (simple, self-hostable group calendar)

An important security patch (version 1.3.1) for Feber is now available both through Yunohost and from the website: https://simonrepp.com/feber – I strongly recommend updating.

In addition, version 1.4.0 is also freshly available (from the website and in a few days from Yunohost - no critical timing on that one, upgrade whenever you like :)), for all details see my announcement on the fediverse: https://post.lurk.org/@freebliss/116288789263845768

  1. Catching up: Faircamp, FOSDEM, Hyper 8

I failed to send out a few big news items here recently (sorry everyone) because I first struggled with RSI (towards the end of 2025, limiting my keyboard time to an absolute minimum), and as soon as that recovered (very well, fortunately!) I basically disappeared behind my desk to work on Faircamp 2.0 ...

2.a) Yes! That's the first news item: Thanks to a grant from austrian open source funding programme netidee I am able to work full time on Faircamp 2.0 in the first half of 2026, with the release already tentatively scheduled for September 2026! And what's more, I'm already 50% done with the work. It's been an absolute delight so far, somewhat cognitively overwhelming in a few spots also :), but all in all it's going very well and I'm very excited to be able to share a first look at what I've been working on in the next weeks (mini teaser: https://post.lurk.org/@freebliss/116285131333327224).

Also: Faircamp 1.7 came out in November: https://simonrepp.com/faircamp/changes/1.7.0/ Yay!

2.b) At the end of january I had the pleasure to be able to visit and present (Faircamp) in a talk at FOSDEM in Brussels: https://fosdem.org/2026/schedule/event/JEBCV9-independent_and_sustainable_audio_publishing_with_faircamp/

This was both very intense (it's such a huge conference!) and also great fun - so many lovely people that I had the chance to meet and talk to – thanks everyone who was there and said hi (and/or even hosted a devroom/talk/session that I could attend)!

The link above also contains the recording of the talk, which offers some glimpses into what's planned for Faircamp 2.0, and towards the end I'm also showcasing some of the amazing people and projects building the new, post-Spotify world. \o/

2.c) Hyper 8 Video System

On the first day of 2026, version 1.0.1 was released: https://simonrepp.com/hyper8/changes/1.0.1/ This one includes a number of essential fixes for the 1.0 release, so I warmly recommend the upgrade!

With all the ongoing experience and deep architectural work on Faircamp (2.0), I've been getting some very valueable insights that I would like to infuse in Hyper 8 eventually. I previously felt a bit anxious about developing Faircamp and Hyper 8 in parallel (or rather serial batches), but ultimately I now feel very positive about how it enables a back-and-forth of exploring different ideas in two projects, to eventually condense and distribute the best of both in them, and having some time-off in between to properly evaluate, think about and understand how these changes shape each project over time.

Anyhow, something is cooking for the second half of 2026 in this department, and you might hear from me soon again. :)

Thank you for your time and interest, write soon! – Simon
